Angelena “Pinky” Robledo comes home after her 3-run home run in the third inning to cheering teammates and fans in the Yellowjackets 13-0 victory over the AB Miller Rebels.

Colton, CA—Yesterday, the Lady Yellowjackets picked up where they left off after Tuesday’s victory over Ontario, pounding the AB Miller Rebels 13-0 in five innings.

On only a day’s rest, Nalyn Hull took to the mound for her second consecutive start, and did not disappoint. She threw three shutout innings, racking up three strikeouts and giving up only one hit. About pitching on short rest, the unflappable Hull was quick to say, “It’s my job. I have to get what I have to get done.”

In relief, Jasmine De La Rosa kept up the pace, completing the shutout by striking out five. After giving up a triple to the first batter she saw, Miller’s Erika Santana, De La Rosa grew nervous. “I didn’t know if I was going to get the next one, but I just kept going,” she said.

“My team, they helped me,” she added. “They calmed my nerves.”

It didn’t hurt that she inherited a 12-0 lead when she came in. The Yellowjacket offense got hits early and often, showing patience in the batter’s box, drawing walks, and forcing the Rebels to make errors.

Hull was also productive in the batter’s box, going 1-for-2 with a two-run triple in the first inning that scored Alexia Castor and Madison Barrera, which put the Yellowjackets up 3-0. Then, in the third inning, Angelena “Pinky” Robledo, made sure the game was out of reach with a three-run home run to left field. It was the first home run of her high school career.

“I was shocked,” Robledo said. “The pitcher wasn’t the fastest, but I was able to catch the ball up front and hit it and make it home, getting all my teammates in.”

After the game, manager Chris Reyes was excited about what he’s seeing from his team. “We just gotta keep our intensity, keep our focus, continue to work hard, and if we maintain the discipline I think we’ll be fine.”

The win improves the Yellowjackets’ record to 2-4 on the season. Their next game is on March 1, when they head out to the desert to face the 3-0 Desert Mirage Rattlers.
