Fontana, CA—After a one-week hiatus, men’s Tennis returned to the court stronger than ever following their back-to-back defeats to Grand Terrace. The Yellowjackets traveled to Kaiser High on Feb. 27, where, in a bold display added with a new team format, they took their victory of the season, beating the Cats 15 sets to 3.

With improved changes to the doubles teams, Colton swept all nine sets against Kaiser. Coach Omar Menjivar shuffled the doubles lineup, pairing first-ranked Christopher Lopez with Xavier Rocha, followed by number two Ivan Acosta and Nicholas Valtierra, and number three Carlos Martinez and Andrew Ibarra. Yulior Zamora returned as a substitute following an ankle injury sustained at the beginning of preseason.

Lopez and Rocha proved their strength together, beating Kaiser’s top ranked doubles team in a perfect set, 6-0.

The same excitement can be said for Colton’s Daniel Garcia, who, fueled by his previous loss against Grand Terrace’s top player, beat all of Kaiser’s ranked singles. Garcia nearly swept all three opponents, winning 6-2, 6-0, 6-1.

Experience gained from the previous matches has shown head coach Omar Menjivar ways to improve his team format, and that was clear from the way Colton dominated Kaiser in this match.

The Yellowjackets have improved significantly with every match this preseason. With this taste of victory against Kaiser, they are hungry for more.

Their next match is Wednesday, Feb. 28 against Carter High at Colton. Game time is 3:00 p.m.
