Softball gets some home cooking, crushes Ontario 14-0
A well-balanced attack gets Colton their first victory of the season
Colton, CA—The rain almost canceled the Lady Yellowjackets first home game of the season. After four ugly losses in the recent Dana Housley Tournament, Colton came home and showed fire and ferocity, shutting out the Ontario Jaguars 14-0 in five innings.
The Yellowjackets were led by pitcher Nalyn Hull, who pitched four shutout innings, including two strikeouts. On the offensive side, the team couldn’t stop hitting. Elena Torrero went 3-for-3 with 2 RBIs. Zerena Acevedo hit 2-for-2 with 3 RBIs. And Susan Corbeton went 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs.
From the start, the Yellowjackets came out swinging. Elena Torrero reached first on a single, followed by a sacrifice bunt by Danielle Campa. This set up a 2-run blast by Zerena Acevedo over center field. From there, the Yellowjackets never looked back.
Elena Torrero, Jocelyn Alcala, and Susana Corbeton also hit big home runs in the third and fourth innings. Torrero also hit a triple, putting her tally at a single, triple, and home run, just one double short of hitting for the cycle.
“I didn’t even know what a cycle was,” Torrero said, “until Nalyn’s dad told me what it was.”
This puts Colton at 1-4 on the season, with their next game on Thursday against the 2-1 AB Miller Rebels. Game time is at 3:00 p.m. on the softball field.
