Colton, CA—To close out their 2022 season, Colton High squared off against the Carter Lions at Memorial Stadium last night. The match was close all night, with Carter taking the victory, 1-0.

The game itself was back and forth throughout. Carter scored the only goal at the 18-minute mark of the first half. Colton’s offense attacked steadily, racking up over 30 shots on goal, however Carter’s defense kept the Yellowjackets out of the net.

Seniors Dario Bravo and Gael Gonzalez played exceptional games, keeping the Yellowjackets in this one. As the match intensified, Carter grew increasingly aggressive, drawing four yellow cards on four different players.

After the match, the soccer staff, players’ families, and fans celebrated the team’s seniors, who had just played their final game for Colton. Parents were invited to stand in goal as each senior lined up to take one final shot on goal before bidding farewell to their senior year season.

This game marks the end of a tumultuous season for the Yellowjackets. Midway through, along with the other teams in the San Andreas League, were found in violation of CIF rules pertaining to athletes participating on both the school’s team and club teams, resulting in the forfeiture of their wins and the suspension of five players.

With the regular season over, the Yellowjackets now look forward to the San Andreas league tournament starting this Saturday, January 29.
