On November 5th, 2017 Tony Romo was surprised with a tribute video after playing 14 years with the Cowboys before the team playing the Chiefs. It had welcomed him with saying “Welcome home, 9”. 9 for the number on his jersey these past 14 years. The video was heartfelt and hit many fans hearts because he has been one of the greatest quarterbacks in Cowboys history.

The Cowboys included a split-screen box of Romo as he watched the tribute in real time. When the video ended, the fans at AT&T Stadium gave Romo a standing ovation. Romo might have expected a warm reception in his first broadcasting trip to Dallas, but he said at the start of the broadcast that he didn’t expect the tribute. He was clearly choked up as he started to discuss the Chiefs-Cowboys game.
