Colton High School vs Grand Terrace High School: the Rival Game

Aneesa Arana, Sports Editor

The time has come for one of the biggest football games Colton High School waits for: Colton High School vs Grand Terrace High School, the rival game. Our football boys were ready for an exciting and nerve wracking game this year to bring home the win for their home town! Although the students of Colton were quite bummed out about the lack of a pep rally this year, we’ve created our own spirit week to get ready!

As a student, I am pretty upset at the fact that we didn’t have a pep rally on Friday for our football boys and students because homecoming’s rally was a great success…but spirit week has been great so far and students are getting involved with the themes this week!

As students were hyping each other up, our football players had been getting ready for the game all week! Many of these boys are in their last year of high school so this game was just as important as their first, like senior, Isaac Corona. Corona was not able to play unfortunately due to an injury, yet he still stood proudly on the field with his team to support them throughout the entire game.

Although the game was not in our favor, the students of Colton High kept their calm and had great sportsmanship. Unlike Grand Terrace, who chanted “Go home Colton!” Our students and football players had class and looked like the real champs on Friday night.

The score came out to 58-6, the game from last year was 54-7. After this unfortunate loss, our record went down to 4-3; bringing Grand Terrace’s record to an unbelievable 6-1. Our next football game against GT in 2018 will not be taken place at our home field due to the construction of a new stadium. Hopefully we can step up our game and become the team we were a few years ago when we crushed GT in 2014.

Great job to both teams. An interesting game was played and both teams fought extremely hard. Good luck to Grand Terrace on the rest of their season and all the love of the students is sent to our very own football players. We’ll get them next time.
