Once again, women’s reproductive rights and the controversies surrounding them have been injected into presidential politics.

It all started when an anti-abortion activist group, the center of Medical Progress (CMP), secretly recorded videos of Planned Parenthood officials talking about selling fetal body tissue from aborted babies. The 10th video that’s apart of the “sting” that was conducted on Planned Parenthood has been released. The CMP hired actors to act as representatives from a biotechnology company that was interested in buying fetal tissue.

In this tenth video, Planned Parenthood officials were caught on tape talking about selling specific parts of aborted babies. Including hearts, eyes, and “gonads”. These parts were being sold to buyers who conducted research experiments with fetal tissue. The so called “buyers” (the CMP) were asking the officials about what they sold, the cost, and who they could talk to since they were interested in buying. Planned Parenthood officials said they sold the parts in exchange for money and they think that’s okay. They also said that the money was for “donation of remuneration”. The officials told the “buyers” to keep the subject on the low, as if someone were to find out, it’d be a big problem considering the selling and buying of fetal tissue is illegal. The sale or purchase of human fetal tissue can lead up to 10 years in prison or a fine of up to $500,000.

Since these videos has been released, there have been a number of protests against Planned Parenthood. The subject was discussed at length at the Republican presidential debates.

If everything said in the videos are true, Planned Parenthood will be in trouble, not only with the law, but if they get the chance to stay in operation, they may be in danger of losing government funds. Republicans in the House of Representatives have already made moves to defund the group.

Many claim that the videos are false and highly edited, although the head announced that she was not against using fetal tissue for conducting researches. It is also said that Planned Parenthood does donate fetal tissue from aborted babies but it is with the full consent of the mother or in other words “donor”. It is said that no profit is made and they are getting nothing in return. There is no clear answer to this undercover video controversy.
