To create excitement mixed with a bit of education for Friday’s pink out game for Breast cancer, ASB put multiple projects together throughout the week to help encourage the CHS student body to become more aware of their health.

A presentation held by ASB Seniors Brenda Barraza, Galilea Padilla and Jacob Duran taught how addiction is a disease that affects many Americans, around 23.5 million to be exact. Once one becomes addicted to some sort of gateway drug, it’s really hard to ever get completely clean. An average of around 40-60% of people relapse even after they seek treatment. The most addictive kind of drugs are heroin, crack, nicotine, methadone, methamphetamine, and cocaine. Alcohol is also known to cause addiction for many people around the world. Around 44,000 people die due to overdoses every year.

Drug addiction is not the only type of addiction; other types of addictions include shopping, eating, and even sleeping. Addiction is one of the least treated diseases in the world and the point of this presentations was to raise awareness to that fact. Addiction can affect you in many ways: for teens, relationships with your family and friends can be affected, grades at school, and many other important aspects of your life. Adults can also be just as affected like, it can damage your relationship with your spouse, kids, and even with your coworkers. More people should be much more aware of addiction to prevent it. The more who know that addiction is a problem, the more support there will be to end it.
