ROTC Dressing Out

Bethany Stringer, Reporter

Here at Colton High School we have many clubs and teams. For example the JROTC and Cheer team. Every Wednesday ROTC students have to wear their uniform. While they wear their uniform it has to be a certain way and look a certain way. For females their hair must be up in a bun not in a ponytail and can’t be touching collar and not covering your ears. Also only black scrunchies can be worn. Only one ring per hand can be worn. Black socks or nylons (nude, beige, tan, taupe) must be worn. Only one set of stud earrings can be worn that coincide with each other. No flashy or an excessive amount of make-up should be worn. Only clear, skin tone, or natural color nail polish is acceptable. Same with males it is very strict. Clean-cut haircuts, off ears and collar. A clean shaved face; mustaches should not be any wider than the width of the mouth. No sideburns. No earrings worn with uniform. Only black socks should be worn with the uniform. Allowed only one ring per hand.

Class A Rank: 1/2 inch from the edge of the shoulder seam. Arrows always point toward the collar. School Shoulder Patch: Centered on the shoulder sleeve. 1/2 inch down from the shoulder seam. JROTC Shoulder Patch: Centered on the shoulder sleeve. 1/2 inch down from the shoulder seam. Star: Centered (left-right) 1/4 inch above the nametag. Academic Wreath: Centered (left-right) 1/8 inch above the nametag. Name Tag: The bottom of the name tag is aligning with the top of the first button; centered on the seam. School Crest: Centered between the second and third button, placed on the seam. Ribbons: The bottom of the ribbons is aligning with the top of the first button; center on the seam. Pins: Place between the second and third button, centered (left-right) on the seam. Each pin is placed 1/4 inch apart. JROTC Pin (Officers): Placed diagonally on the upper lapel. Cords: A maximum of two cords can be worn. If one is worn, it goes on the left. If two are worn, the highest goes on the left.

Class B Board Rank: On shoulder tabs. Name Tag: Aligned with the top button and centered on the seam. Ribbons: Aligned with the top button and centered (left-right) on the seam. Star: Centered (left-right) and 1/4 inch above the nametag. Wreath: Centered (left-right) and 1/8 inch above the nametag. The star is placed inside the wreath. School Crest: Centered between the third and fourth buttons and placed on the seam. Pins: Placed between the second and third button and centered (left-right) on the seam. Each pin is placed 1/4 inch apart from each other. Cords: A maximum of two cords can be worn. If one is worn, it goes on the left. If two are worn, the highest goes on the left. SO you get the point it is very strict and nothing can be wrinkled or wrong it has to be perfect.

At the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year On Wednesdays when all rotc had to be in their uniforms they would not have to dress out for people because they can’t mess their uniforms. But after a couple of weeks the female PE teachers complained and so now rotc has to dress out. The male pe teachers and all rotc students are on my side with the fact that they shouldn’t have to dress out. It shouldn’t be the students getting bad grades in their rotc class because their uniform got destroyed in the locker room. Also when they wear their uniform they don’t remember to bring extra shoes and they can’t wear their uniform shoes s they have to borrow shoes from loners. WOuld you want to wear a random person’s shoes I know I wouldn’t. All i got to say is it is not right and we need to change it back to wear they have a pass and will be able to keep their uniforms nice. b
