Global Pandemic Affecting Jobs

Eric Vargas, Reporter

So as we all know there is a global pandemic going around and most people have their job because they are considered “essential’’. But there are also a lot of people who have lost their jobs because of COVID-19. Most jobs are still around but the jobs being affected the most are smaller businesses.

The smaller business owners that are not working don’t receive any income, so they can’t pay bills. Thankfully, the IRS handed out a “stimulus check”, the only problem is not everyone qualifies for the stimulus check. The only people that qualify for the check are individuals that have a bank account. Even if you get lucky and get accepted, you still have to wait about 5 months to get the stimulus check. However, some people have reported that they have not received the check even after the 5 months.

So most people have their income under control but there are still people that do not have any money to pay bills. 2020 has had a high number of job losses. There are over 5 million individuals that have lost their jobs and don’t have any source of income to pay for bills and groceries.

Even the people that are still working are at risk of getting COVID-19 because they are exposed to other individuals, regardless of following procedures like wearing a mask and keeping their distance.
