If you look at photos from the early 90’s you notice something about the outfits. Everybody wore big baggy clothes. Why did it change? Why did fashion change from big ripped jeans and oversized shirts to now crop tops and skinny jeans? What influenced fashion to change from the normal baggy clothes to the new normal; skirts, high heels, skinny jeans and tight small shirts? Well it was the 1995 classic rom com film Clueless

In the early 90’s, common fashion was dressing in big baggy oversized clothes. Mainly clothes such as; ripped baggy jeans, black boots, big shirts, and oversized checkered button ups. One of the major influences of these trends was rock music, rap music, and skateboarding. People like Snoop Dogg, Johnny Depp, Rodney Mullen, Kurt Cobain, and Ice Cube are great examples of the baggy fashion. When Clueless came out everything in the fashion industry had changed. The movie starts off with Cher dressed in a plaid Dolce & Gabbana skirt with a matching suit jacket top and a white shirt and cardigan. Outfits such as these were not commonly worn. Even in the background of this scene, you can see people wearing big baggy clothes because the fashion worn by Cher wasn’t normal. After the movie came out it was a hit for fashion. The movie even got called fashion movie of the year. That was when fashion changed. People were done with the baggy clothes and began to care about what they wore. Fashion since then has expanded and changed. Clueless was like a bridge that linked 90’s grunge fashion to the fashion we are familiar with now.
