JROTC Day Full of Fun

Armand Trujillo, Reporter

The JROTC Field trip was an amazing experience. It’s overall structure in the class was amazing also. The field trip was held on Thursday of October on the 12th. There was a little fee in order to go on the field trip of $10. This included the Museum of the USS Midway and the San Diego Zoo.

We made it on top and saw all types of helicopters and airplanes most of us even took pictures of them. We then went into a chamber where the made the food on the ship, the war room, and the sleeping chamber. The types of food they would make weren’t to bad from what we have at home. Even the war room looked very interesting because due to the fact that it had so many sonars and flashing buttons. When we finally went into the sleeping chamber it was so small and so crowded we didn’t even understand how a 6 foot person would be able to even walk through or even sleep on those small beds.

After being there for almost 2 hours we had to finally leave, so we did roll call and hoped on the bus. It was another long ride even going to the zoo because of so much traffic. Then we finally made it and we’re overjoyed to see just the flamingos there. We made our ways and saw all different types of animals. I saw huge turtles that almost looked like they were dead just by the way they were lying down.

We then saw some crocodiles with these long thin snouts. We then went on to see some of the apes and monkeys. After we saw the apes and monkeys we had to then go look at the different types of birds that were there.  We had to go back for a check up with the Commander though. We went and checked up with the Commander then we scattered.

We all split up because some wanted food and the others wanted to see more animals. I wanted to go see more animals. So, we went on to go see more animals like the hippos, tigers, lions, bears, and even elephants. It was quite interesting yet a little sad to see animals caged up. It was finally time to go do another check up but this time it was to go home.

We got on the bus and headed home. I ended up not getting my regular seat and had to sit next to two other kids on the bus. It wasn’t too bad because halfway way there I fell asleep again. Then after a long couple hour journey we had finally made it back home. It was a new and exciting experience for me just as it was for any new cadet there was.
