The Chamber Singers—Regina Ramirez, Henrietta Garduno, and Art Hernandez—competed in the 1983 Chapman College Johnny Mann’s Festival in Dec. 1983.

Colton High School opened in 1895. It is one of the oldest high schools in the Inland Empire. In this daily feature, we celebrate Colton High’s rich history.

On December 16, 1983, three students—Regina Ramirez, Henrietta Garduno, and Arthur Hernandez—competed in the Johnny Manns’s Great National Choral Festival at Chapman College in Orange. They named their trio “The Chamber Singers.”

The Chamber Singers placed third in the competition.

“There were 36 different schools and eight categories,” said director Rick Solano. “This competition was harder than ones we did usually compete in because it was so early in the year.

The Chamber singers did put a lot of hours into preparing for the competition. “We usually don’t compete until late January. I thought we did well.” said Arthur Hernandez.

“Most people don’t realize how many hours we put in,” concluded Melanie Cook.
