Colton High School opened in 1895. It is one of the oldest high schools in the Inland Empire. In this daily feature, we celebrate Colton High’s rich history.

On December 10, 2010, the Colton High School football squad celebrated a triumphant victory over the Rancho Verde Mustangs, 17-7, to win the C.I.F. Southern Section-Central Division playoffs.

It was the cherry on a season in which the Yellowjackets went 12-3. The game was hard fought throughout, with Colton going into the halftime with a 3-point lead on a field goal by junior kicker Tyler Rich. In the second half, the Yellowjackets picked up steam and found their scoring to take the title.

Quarterback Jordan Mixon threw for 151 yards and two touchdowns on no interceptions, including a 79-yard bomb to wide receiver Rodney Hardrick. Hardrick also caught the team’s second touchdown, giving him 96 yards receiving. Running back Tyler Ervin was a force to be reckoned with in the run game, racking up 188 yards on 42 carries.

On defense, Hasten Roberts and Devan Hussey each contributed timely interceptions, and John Taylor made a huge fumble recovery.

A parade for the team was held on December 14 down Rancho Avenue.
