This week’s Vibe goes rebel with a punk theme. From upper left: Amyl and the Sniffers, Meet Me @ the Altar, Green Day, Turnstile, The All-American Rejects.

For this week’s Colton Vibe, we’re taking a look at some of the most exciting punk rock tracks currently out there in the streaming ether. So stick a pin in your earlobe, run some super glue through your hair, strap on a spiky collar and prepare for some pure, unadulterated rebellion.

Hertz – Amyl and The Sniffers
On “Hertz’‘ lead singer Amy Taylor bellows over roaring guitars, telling us she wants to go to the countryside. Why? To “see mosquitoes buzz past.” The Melbourne based group just released their 3rd studio album “Comfort to Me” on September 10. With the distorted guitars by Doc Martens, the absurd drumming by Keivn Romer, and the smooth bass by Fergus Romer, these Aussies know how to rock.

BLACKOUT – Turnstile
The “Bad Boys From Baltimore” have struck gold once again with their 4th studio album “MYSTERY.” The band have been a frontrunner in this new era of punk rock ever since their inception back in late 2010s. Brendon Yetes has one of the more promising voices to come out of punk. The pitches and sound he can create are stunning. “BLACKOUT” has multiple bridges and a chorus will get stuck in your head upon first listen.

Now or Never – Meet Me @ The Altar
Internet’s very own Meet Me @ The Altar are record label Fueled by Ramens newly signed punk band. The lady trio got their start via YouTube. Lead guitarist/bassist Téa Campbell discovered drummer Ada Juarez’s pop-punk cover videos and reached out. The two forged a relationship and auditioned a singer the same way. “Model Citizen,” the group’s third album has a rebellious theme right down to the album cover. Campbell’s bass has rigid metal tones that really stand out on “Now or Never.”

Swing, Swing – The All-American Rejects
Here’s a throwback. This debut single from critically acclaimed emo pop punk band The All-American Rejects is regarded as one of their best. Front man Tyson Ritter’s crackling high pitched voice with his steady bass chords anchor the Rejects. “Swing, Swing” would go on to be the group’s biggest hit from their self-titled album. The All-American Rejects went on to record 12 more albums, making them one of the most successful punk groups of the 2000s.

Wake Me Up When September Ends – Green Day
This morning on October 1st people all over the internet were “checking to see if the Green Day guy is awake.” Arguably the most famous song by American punk rock group Green Day. The song, written and sung by Billie Joe Armstrong, is a ballad to his late father Andrew Armstrong who passed away on September 10, 1982. Billie sings to his mother in the song, speaking to the grief and pain he felt at the loss of his father. In an interview, Billie stated that the title of the song is what he proclaimed to his mother when he found out the news of his father’s passing.
