Youtube sensation, Troye Sivan has recently dropped his debut album, Blue Neighbourhood, making all of Sivan’s fans swoon with utter excitement over the electric pop album.

Blue Neighbourhood is like a breath of fresh air when it comes to new music in the pop market and Sivan’s fanbase aren’t the only ones who think so. Grammy award-winning artist Sam Smith and Taylor swift have showed their support on Social media. Swift praised Sivan’s work of his newest single titled, “WILD” (Which Sivan has chosen to capitalize all his song titles.) and Smith seemed a bit obsessed over Sivan’s album claiming, “his voice does things to my body.” as well as tweeting lyrics from the song “BITE”.

If Blue Neighbourhood was summarized in ten words or less it would be love and heartbreak; finding yourself; and growing up. Sivan beautifully showcases these traits in his music lyrically and in the production. “WILD” is the first song off the album and also Sivan’s first single and the first thing heard is a children’s choir chanting and stretching out the word “Wild” before Sivan starts his verse. WILD is one of those songs you sing along in the car to. Not only is it catchy but very well written. Probably because the Aussie co-wrote his entire album. Although “WILD” is one of many of Sivan’s love songs, it can also be interpreted as a way of growing up whether it’s experiencing love or independence for the first time.

“YOUTH” is another upbeat tempo track with a surprising shriek of “My youth!” all throughout the song. “TOO GOOD” at first sounded like a normal piano love ballad before surprising me with dramatic beat. Sivan has told the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon his favorite track is titled “COOL” Which can be interpreted as someone falling into Hollywood’s fast life. “BITE” is the darkest and song on Blue Neighbourhood, with lyrics “Kiss me on the mouth and set me free; Sing me like a choir; I can be the subject of your dreams; Your sickening desire; Don’t you wanna see your man up close; A Phoenix in the fire; So kiss me on the mouth and set me free but please don’t bite.” Then production added a bass that could have possibly blown out my headphone speakers because of the volume of the song.

Blue Neighbourhood has its hits (BLUE, YOUTH, FOOLS, and BITE) and it also had its misses (DKLA “Don’t Keep Love Around” HEAVEN, and SUBURBIA). Overall the album is amazing. The production of most of the songs is fantastic and Sivan has a talent for songwriting. This album may be the change the pop market has been searching for.
