UPDATE – Sep. 4, 3:31 P.M.: Due to the heat advisory, game time for Friday night’s football game between Colton and Arrowhead Christian has been pushed back to 7:30 p.m. Gates will open at 6:30 p.m.
Colton athletes have a new enemy: the sun.
Yesterday, athletic director Mike Reh announced that multiple sporting events this week will be postponed or canceled due to the heatwave expected to hit Southern California this week.
The only game canceled was the JV football game against Arrowhead Christian on Thursday, Sep. 5. Both girls tennis matches, against Rubidoux today, Sep. 4 and in Banning on Sep. 6 were postponed.
Volleyball and football games are expected to play as scheduled. Volleyball is home against Rubidoux and Moreno Valley on Sep. 4 and 5. Football is home against Arrowhead Christian on Sep. 6.
Athletic directors from all schools are working to reschedule the dates for tennis matches.
The incoming heatwave is expected to bring the hottest temperatures of the year. Over the next week, temperatures will be well over 100 degrees. For this week, on Wednesday, expect a high of 105-106; Thursday the high will be 109, and on Friday the heat will be 111.
It is advised to remain indoors, and stay hydrated.
