James Ruiz’s single was part of a huge 8-run explosion by the Yellowjackets during the 6th inning against Rim of the World. Colton won 15-3.

Colton, CA—After a strange opening game to the San Gorgonio tournament on Tuesday, in which Colton’s game against Lancaster ended in a tie, on Feb. 15 they took the diamond against a displaced Rim of the World and made sure there would be no questions about who won.

Colton scored early and often against the Scots, who were forced to play in Colton after recent snowstorms in the mountains rendered their field unplayable, winning their third game of the season, 15-3.

Everyone down the lineup had a strong showing, getting at least one hit and scoring a run. Kyle Mejia went 2-2 and scored twice. Azael Hernandez, Roman Torrero, and Steven Aguayo hit doubles.

They were also walked consistently, with the parade of Rim pitchers struggling all game to find the strike zone, recording a total of 13 walks.

Meanwhile, Colton’s defense continues to shine early in the season. Starting pitcher Roman Torrero gave up two runs and five hits in four innings of work, striking out six and walking none.

In the field, second baseman Isaac Padilla had a standout game, holding down the middle of the field as he recorded two outs in the second inning, one more in the third, and another in the fifth.

The victory now has the Yellowjackets record at 3-0-1 in the early season. Next week they play two more San Gorgonio tournament games: Redlands East Valley on Feb. 20 at home, and at San Gorgonio on Feb. 22. Game times are both 3 p.m.

Notes

Opening pitch was thrown by Colton mayor Frank J. Navarro.
