Rialto, CA—Six Colton High wrestlers took home the top prize in their weight divisions at Saturday’s Arrowhead Conference Finals, held at Carter High School.

For the boys varsity team, Joel Benitez, Steven Ornelas, Daniel Vega and Santino Zamora each walked away as Arrowhead Conference champs. On the girls’ side, Norel Cuellar and Cambria Duron were the day’s huge winners.

In addition, Madeline Castillo was crowned San Andreas League champ in her weight class. “It was pretty cool,” she said about winning,” since it was my first year.”

For junior Cambria Duron, this was a big week. She was part of the championship winning girls soccer team, who defeated Rim of the World 2-0 Thursday night, then she turned around on Saturday to win the league title in her weight class.

“Winning league for wrestling definitely completed my goals for myself as a first-year wrestler,” Duron said.

Conference finals is a countywide event in which schools from both leagues in the Arrowhead Athletic Conference compete for top honors. The San Andreas League and Sunkist League athletes in all weight classes take to mats in the day-long event.

While this event ends the regular season for Colton High, next up are the CIF playoffs. The two-day event begins this Friday, Feb. 9 for varsity boys at Sonora High School in La Habra and continues on Saturday, Feb. 10 for varsity girls at Marina High School in Huntington Beach.
