Colton, CA—The warm glow of a 2-0 victory took over Memorial Stadium Thursday after a long rainy day made for a soggy championship game between Colton and Rim of the World.

After beating San Gorgonio on Tuesday, the Yellowjackets were ready to take this win. But it wasn’t without challenge as the two teams split their previous games this season, with Colton defeating Rim 4-1 on Dec. 7 and Rim returning the favor 4-2 on Jan. 18.

Colton was led on offense by seniors Melanie Bravo and Anna Bailey, both of whom scored a goal in the win.

With a wet field, the game started off rough. but the team’s hustle set up Bravo for her first goal, giving Colton the first half lead.

Yellowjackets came with a fight, slowly showing high intensity as their passes connected and their confidence in each other grew.

Colton’s defense locked down Rim, holding them to few shots in the first half. Goalkeeper Addyson Castro was especially strong in the box, keeping Rim out of the net.

In the second half Bailey striked first, putting Colton up 2-0.

The teams fought harder and harder after the second goal. Despite some upsetting calls from the officiating crew, Colton stayed tough and unified.

And now they are San Andreas League champions.

As exciting as the victory is, the team now has the CIF playoffs to look forward to. Brackets for soccer are set to be announced on Saturday, Feb. 3.
