Girls basketball faces GTHS for tournament crown

San Bernardino, CA—So far this week has been the perfect start for Colton High’s girl’s basketball team 2023-24 season. They are currently 3-0 on the week, defeating Arroyo Valley, Banning, and Pacific in the Arroyo Valley Tournament.

Tonight, they will take on local rival Grand Terrace High School for the tournament title. The game will be played at 7:30 p.m. at Indian Springs High School in San Bernardino.

On Monday, Colton blew out tournament host Arroyo Valley at the Hubbs Gym, 50-27. Tuesday, they traveled to Banning and defeated the Broncos 51-31. Last night, they had their toughest test yet this season against the Pacific Pirates, holding on to a 52-47 win.

Meanwhile, Grand Terrace also enters the game undefeated. On Monday, they beat Indian Springs 48-31, then destroyed Excelsior Charter 77-16 on Tuesday. Last night, they defeated Carter 49-47.

Colton are currently being led by junior point guard Savannah Govea, who’s averaging 19.6 points, 2.6 rebounds and 8 steals per game. The second leading scorer is sophomore Gabriella Gomez, who is averaging 6.3 points and 2.6 steals per game.

Grand Terrace are led by junior Jayleen Barajas, averaging 28.5 points per game, including dropping 45 against Excelsior Charter.
