NBA All Star Weekend Ends with a Bang with a Star Studded Lineup
March 15, 2017
This past weekend, was when the NBA had their All-Star saturday night events and also the All-Star Game held in New Orleans. The best players around the league all participated in this all star game including players Stephen Curry, Lebron James, and Russell Westbrook.
One of the most anticipated events on Saturday was the 3 point contest. This event held the best shooters from all around the league. The players that participated in this were; Kyrie Irving, CJ McCollum, Klay Thompson, Wesley Matthews, Eric Gordon, Nick Young, Kemba Walker, and Kyle Lowry. Going into this contest, the favorite to win was the knockdown shooter from the Golden State Warriors, Klay Thompson. But that, definitely didn’t happen since Klay was eliminated in the first round. The final contestants in the shootout were Kyrie Irving and Eric Gordon. After going into overtime in the last round, the veteran Eric Gordon came out with the win.
After the three point contest came the most hyped event of the night with the slam dunk contest. In this contest the participants were DeAndre Jordan, Glenn Robinson III, Derrick Jones Jr., and Aaron Gordon. Aaron Gordon was the only player that has been in a previous dunk contest, and most people would say he got robbed last year for the win to Zach Lavine. Like Klay Thompson, the favored player did not make the final round. Glenn Robinson III ended up coming out with the win.
After these Saturday night events, the biggest and best players took the stage in the actual All-Star game with Team East Conference with leading star LeBron James and Team West with leading star Russell Westbrook. In the past All-Star games the West is known for coming out on top with the win. With the game being held in New Orleans, home of the Pelicans, Anthony Davis was at the highest stage since he is the hometown star. He sure lived up to the hype too by dropping an All-Star game all-time high 52 points. The West did also win once again and Anthony Davis was given the All-Star MVP.
This was not the best all star weekend, but it was good enough. Congratulations to the winners of the contests being Kristaps Porzingis, Eric Gordon, Glenn Robinson III, and Team West; and good luck to teams going into their second half of their seasons.
