Oakland Raiders Winning Season Comes to a Halt

Mario Fierro, Reporter

As many NFL fans know, the  Oakland Raiders had an amazing winning year this 2016-17 football season, the first time having a winning season since 2002, which also marked the first time they have gone to the playoffs since that time. They were so close to going to the Super Bowl for all the diehard Raider fans, who were confident about their team until the loss against the Texans. But if one thing was for sure, Oakland had a problem, and that problem was their starting quarterback Derek Carr, who had broken his fibula during their last game. Oakland would have to go to their second string quarterback, who had gone into the game with an injured shoulder.

So Oakland had to act fast and bring in their third string quarterback into the game, doing better than second stringer. However, the Raiders were getting cautious about if their third string quarterback got injured, their wide receiver, Michael Crabtree, would have to come in as the fourth consecutive string quarterback. Maybe the Raiders would have won the game against the Texans but if one player goes down the whole team goes down especially since it was the quarterback. The Raiders did not play the same after.

Oakland still have many years to make playoffs and one more Super Bowl left in them. With Carr healthy next season, the Raiders look unstoppable and look to head to Super Bowl LII in contention for the title. Fans will see if they can get revenge and repeat the good 2016-2017 season, which marked one of the greatest comebacks for the franchise since the 1990’s.
