Football gears up for new season
September 1, 2016
Colton High School’s Varsity football team played North High School’s Huskies in a scrimmage at Memorial Stadium on August 25. Both teams warmed up on the Yellowjacket field before kick off.
In the exhilarating first five minutes of the scrimmage, North gained the upperhand over the Yellowjackets, making the first and only touchdown of the game. However after this initial touchdown, Colton’s defense did not allow North to gain the upperhand again. After the first play, the only action came from a minor scuffle from one of North High’s player’s after he was overtaken by Colton’s defense. Aside from that, the scrimmage was rather uneventful as neither the Yellowjackets nor the Huskies allowed for holes in their defense. As far as this scrimmage being an indicator as to how the Yellowjacket’s season will go, senior Steven Alanis (OL,DL) says he and the team “Feel prepared. We’re more like a family, we treat each other like brothers; it influences our ability.” We will see how how their dynamic influences their ability when the Yellowjacket season begins on September 2nd at Lakeside.
