Borbon commented on making CIF in his last season saying, “It’s [an] unbelievable feeling. I’d never thought I would [ever] see the day.” Starting his freshman year, Dominick Borbon had originally started track to get faster for football however, he then grew love for racing and never looked back. . Since joining track, Dominick gained a lot of respect from students, teachers, teammates, and peers, which inspires him to do his best and treating every meet like his last. His speed and agility has skyrocketed to new heights as his last year progresses, making this league finals run one to remember.
Showing her athletic speed from playing varsity basketball, Trinique Jonzun dominated in the girls division, having a breakout season in just her second season on Track. She looks to prove to everyone in the division that she is not willing to give up on this journey to championship gold. The motivation she gets from her teammates and family help guide her into a successful season.
The CIF playoffs will start on Saturday, May 14th and will take place at Estancia High School in Costa Mesa. They will be running the 1600 and 100 meter run against every school in the Sunkist league. With the pressure on their shoulders, both athletes look to shock the division and get far up in the ranks, looking to grab the CIF gold. The athletes are making this finals a strong one as they dedicate it to Coach Pat Contreras for her final season with the team after serving many years as the head coach for Sprints. As finals quickly approaching, all eyes will be on both Borbon and Jonzun in this year’s CIF, watching how these two will compete at a very high level.
