LeBron James Breaks Out in Space Jam Sequel
May 16, 2016
On May 6th, it was announced to the public that the Cleveland Cavaliers Small Forward and NBA superstar Lebron James is going to star in the sequel to the iconic 1996 sports film, Space Jam, as the starting role. The original Space Jam stars Hall of Fame basketball icon Michael Jordan and he is sent to the land of Looney Tunes to help save Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and the rest of the Toon Squad from a group of aliens (aka the MonStarz), looking to capture them to bring them back to their planet by beating them at basketball. With the stolen skills of some of the NBA’s Elite 90s players including Charles Barkley, Muggsy Bogues, Larry Bird and even Patrick Ewing, there was no match for MJ and the Looney Tunes who ended up beating the aliens sending them back to where they belong.
Now it’s Lebron’s turn to star in his very own Space Jam but how will that far to the original? Can he make a better movie than the 90s classic? Space Jam director Joe Pytka says that the Space Jam sequel is “doomed” and advising Lebron not to do it. Pytka says that “there was a perfect storm of players and ex-players available” and they had “the biggest star on the planet” in Michael Jordan but claims there’s nothing around like that anymore. However, that is true in Lebron’s case, as he is the current favorite in the NBA to lose the finals two years in a row to Stephen Curry.
