It’s been a tough season for Colton varsity softball. Not only did they lose all their games they had against Grand Terrace but they only won two games out of all their league games.
It seems like Colton is having the same problems they had from the start of the season. Add to that, their coach, Michelle McDonell, is in her first year with the team. Their first game on Tuesday March 17, Colton lost 17-0; the second game they lost on Tuesday by a score of 12-0; they lost their last game with GT on Thursday 11-2. It appears that Colton has made a very small improvement throughout the season but it’s just not enough to get a win against GT or even close to one.
Their first game against GT, Colton was completely defeated and left with their pride damaged. It takes a lot to come back from a loss like that and it’s easy to say that Colton was still thinking about their first game. Taking another thumping from GT they didn’t manage one run. Junior Justice Sandoval believes that it’s the same problem they faced their last game, “the team needs to start acting like a family.” She says there is good potential but the team does not work hard enough during practices. “Practice is tedious,” meaning it’s very dull. Sandoval feels like there is much the team can do but they are not working hard enough.
Colton’s last game on Thursday there was little improvement and they actually made two runs against GT. There is definitely a need for work with the Varsity softball team, the coach has much on her hands. Even then next year would be better for them with a fresh new start. You can’t judge someone on their job with a team if they are new to this team, building a bond with the players is very important in a team. Without that you just have a group of individuals working together, with a strong bond and knowledge of the players you play with, then you have a team.
