There’s something about Fontana that brings out the best in Yellowjackets basketball Coach Ty Gordon. He believes that one aspect of the game feeds into the other. “Our main priority is to play some good defense to create good offense,” Gordon said just before the Jackets took the court against the Fontana Steelers Friday night in Fontana. As it turned out, he was right, as the Jackets held the Steelers all night in a dominating, stifling effort, coming away with a 58-26 victory.
With Power Foward Jason Taylor contributing two blocks and Point Guard Michael Guzman two steals, the defense turned into offense, with Guzman scoring 15 points, all from the three point line, and ten points added by Small Forward, Matthew Gomez.
The second half, like the first, was a blowout. Power Forward Dylon Lyons dominated in the paint, putting up eight points and again Guzman showed his tremendous speed, adding nine points to his stats. The Fontana defense could not handle the Jackets’ offensive surge. Center Adrian Guzman put up ten points in the low post, ending the game.
Adrian Guzman commented after the game, “Defense was our strong suit in this game. We played our hearts out there. This was a great win for us.”
