So far it has been a great season for Colton Yellowjackets varsity softball, taking the league title for the fourth year in a row and heading into the playoffs. But head coach Joe Montes says, “We just have to take it one game at a time and see how it goes from there.” According to Montes, this year’s squad is a “good group of girls, but yet sometimes lazy.” These girls might be a bit lazy, but they’re winners, giving Montes his 8th league championship in his 13 years of coaching.
But all the credit can’t just go to Montes. The coach is backed by a great coaching staff coach. Montes says, “We have our ups and downs but other than that, we’re great. We’re going to have to have a great coaching staff because we’re going to lose ten seniors eight of them are starters and five of them are getting scholarships to go play for a college.” This group of ten starters is Montez’s largest group of seniors he has had in his 13 years of coaching.
With the playoffs soon approaching, the Jackets are ready to sting. Montes believes this can be the year that the girls can finally bring the title to Colton.
