For the first time in over forty years, the Colton Yellowjackets varsity boy’s basketball team has captured the league crown. This was last accomplished in 1967. One of the sparkplugs of the team, and a big reason for its successful undefeated league season is starting guard, senior Jonathan Paat. The Pepper Bough sat down for an interview with Paat in which he discusses this past season and looks forward to the playoffs.
Pepper Bough: How do you feel about winning the league title?
Patt: It feels great because I’ve been here all four years. It’s an amazing feeling!
Pepper Bough: What do you attribute to the success of this season?
Patt: I’m a senior, so I am one of the leaders of the team.
Pepper Bough: What do you attribute to your own personal success?
Patt: My three pointers!
Pepper Bough: Who taught you how to play basketball?
Patt: My dad. I’ve been playing since I was five.
Pepper Bough: Do you have any other athletes in your family?
Patt: No I don’t, I’m the only one.
Pepper Bough: Do you have any pregame rituals?
Patt: We pray as a team and I pray by myself.
Pepper Bough: Do you listen to any music before the game?
Patt: Yes, I do, J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, but before the game, I listen to “Pray” by the Game.
Pepper Bough: What or who inspires you?
Patt: My mom because she works really hard to raise me, so I work hard to be a good basketball player.
Pepper Bough: Who is your favorite basketball team and your favorite basketball player?
Patt: The Lakers are my favorite team and James Harden #13 from the Houston Rockets is my favorite player.
Pepper Bough: What college do you plan on attending?
Patt: Cal State San Bernardino and majoring in Marketing/Business.
Pepper Bough: Do you play any other sports or have any hobbies?
Patt: I play badminton and I like to play piano and hang out with my friends.
Pepper Bough: How many brothers and sisters do you have?
Patt: I have one older brother and one younger sister.
Pepper Bough: What was your best game this season?
Patt: When we played Summit. We were down 22 points going into the fourth quarter and we came back and beat them in over time.
Pepper Bough: Is there something that you want people to know about you that they don’t already know?
Patt: I can be a comedian.
It was a pleasure interviewing Jonathan and I wish the Varsity team good luck in the playoffs.
