Colton Varsity basketball team pulls off amazing comeback

Trailing early in the first quarter of their game against Summit High on Thursday, January 24th, it seemed hopeless for Colton’s varsity basketball team to keep their undefeated streak going. Shots seemed to be raining in by Summit’s varsity sharpshooters with no end in sight. It seemed hopeless from the start. Trailing 24-7 at the end of the 1st quarter Colton was hurt and bleeding.

In the 2nd quarter, Colton was trailing by nearly two times their score with Summit ahead 33-17. Even with this little push it still seemed that the Yellow Jackets would have a long and forgetful night. Heads held down walking into the lockers at halftime, the Jackets could hope for little support from the hostile Sky Hawks’ taunts.

Pumped by the coach’s pep talk, Colton emerged from the locker room with heads held high and ready to play, with a few chants from the few Colton fans in the away bleachers trying to encourage the Yellow Jackets. The third quarter began but with little success for the Jackets. They still trailed by double digits.

With a still a full quarter to play the game already seemed over. Trailing 47-27 with only eight minutes to play, a comeback seemed very unlikely. But with a steel-wall defense Colton held  them to scoring only three points and caused turnovers, while on the other hand the Jacket sharpshooters rained in 27 points to take the lead, but a last second buzzer beater by Summit tied it up. So they headed into overtime.

Still fighting, Summit dropped five more points but only to fall short to Colton’s ten with Colton winning 62-57. What seemed impossible from the start Colton pulled through. It was a true Cinderella finish for your very own Colton Yellow Jackets, a game that shall be remembered for years to come.
