The Dodgers and Dodger fans alike get a fresh start with Guggenheim Partnership’s purchase of the team. The Guggenheim Partnership, which will take over the Dodgers on May 1st, consists of Magic Johnson, Peter Gruber and Stan Kasten.
The Dodgers were purchased for $2 billion, the highest ever paid for a Major League Baseball team.
Outfielder Tony Gwynn expressed excitement at the news of Magic Johnson’s involvement in the purchase of the Dodgers. “I’m pumped because I’m the biggest Laker fan. I grew up a huge Magic Johnson fan,“ said Gwynn.
Tommy Lasorda has expressed excitement about Stan Kasten owning the Dodgers, because of his experience as the Atlanta Braves President. Kasten was also President of the Washington Nationals.
With Magic Johnson being a local Los Angeles sports figure, the Dodgers hope he can re-establish the bond between the fans and the franchise.
