A Putt Away To First

The Colton High School girl’s golf team came in second place in league for the second year in a row. “I am really happy with the turn out,” stated Head Coach Brian Pope.

The best round of golf the Colton girls shot was against Arroyo Valley at Moreno Valley Ranch Golf Course. “The girls scored 269, they usually score 300. Each of the girls shot the game of their life.” Coach Pope stated.

I asked Coach Pope, about how he got started coaching golf. He replied, “My wife Stephanie was on the first golf team here at Colton 10 years ago. She and Coach Mainez talked me into coaching.”  Coach Pope told me that this will be his last season coaching.  He plans on spending more time with his wife and son.

When I asked Coach Pope, “Is there anything you want people to know about you?” He shared with me that when he was at the University of Idaho, he had a hand in starting the Native American Business Leaders of America.  The NABLA helped Native American students find scholarships and create business opportunities.

Congratulations on a great season to the Colton High Girl’s golf team and good luck to Coach Brian Pope.
