Reasons why animal testing is cruel

One Health Care Issue in the world is Animal testing. I personally believe that using innocent animals as an experiment to cure diseases is not ok. The animals don’t choose to be injected with chemicals or to starve to death. It is shown that the animals are deprived of food and water so that it won’t interfere with the experiment. The animals are purposely cut and burned to observe the healing process and long periods of physical restraint. Let’s not forget that they get their necks purposely broken and suffocate with just breathing carbon dioxide that is replacing the oxygen.

Animal testing came about way before 400 years ago but William Harvey used animals to see how the blood circulated in the body. Back then there was no anesthetics or painkillers, even now studies show that they still don’t use anesthetics on the animals used in the scientist’s experiments. In the 1800s many people talked about not supporting this experiment but they started to stand against it and that’s when Great Britain passed the Cruelty to animals act in 1887. When they were approved animal testing it became a controversial issue.

Animal testing obviously affects the animals being used in the way that they get treated poorly. Some animals like the chimpanzees get placed in a small long tube which is then sealed so that they suffocate. They say that animals help to find cures to diseases and develop new treatments to prevent possible infections for the reason that we have similar genes to the animals. This may be true in the way that we have had major advances in treating conditions like breast cancer because of mice which had survival rates rise and brain injury. Although this is true Animals shouldn’t be treated the way that they have been for the past years. They are helping us find cures so why treat them poorly.

One organization that is for animal testing is the Foundation for Biomedical Research. They focus on the humane treatment of animals and the education gained from them. They support it because we gain better safety education and that animal testing is necessary for the betterment in human health. At the same time, the animals should still be treated right because they help us with our race. An organization that does not support animal testing is PETA which an animal welfare group which has two million members in it and is one of the largest animal rights organizations. It does not support it because they believe that animals deserve to live their life happily and freely without having to suffer.

I think that animal testing should be amended in which the animals should be treated more humane because they assist us in finding research to improve human health. This situation can be controversial to many people because as I stated before the scientist still don’t use anesthetics or painkillers for the animals today. They can change and maybe they will know that many people disagree with the situation but still want research to help humans.
