This year’s football season was an aberration

Colton football has always been the pride of the city, producing NFL products like Jimmy Smith and Shareece Wright, who both currently play on the Baltimore Ravens. The school has a history of making it to the playoffs but this year was different. To say the team struggled would be an understatement.

I don’t believe this is year was the Colton football we’ve all come to know with this year finishing with a 2-8 record and a 0-5 record in league, even losing for the first time to arch rivals Grand Terrace. Or is it? Is this the new normal for the once mighty and proud Colton football?

I don’t believe so. I believe this was just a down year in what has been a consistently superior football program. This year was setback from the start,  with coach Ma’ilo resigning, putting assistant coach Collins into the new head coaching position. As most first year coaches will know,  with a new system and a new style there are going to be growing pains and there was plenty of growing pains this year.  But with a year of being the head coach under his belt and returning juniors looking to put this football program on track, next year looks primed to be the return of the of the Colton football that the school is famous for.
