With large amounts of work and little time, students struggle to keep their grades high while trying to achieve the recommended eight to nine hours of sleep. Being in school for seven hours can be very tiring and leave students exhausted. Then going home and having to do homework and possibly the work that the parents ask them to do can also be time consuming.
All this work leaves students with little to no time at all to enjoy life or even sneak in a little nap in now and then which can make a huge difference in their lives because they are young and still growing–so every minute counts and can take a huge affect on how our bodies grow and mature.
Perhaps teachers can find a way to balance the homework– maybe having one period’s homework on one day and the other period’s on other days, instead of having up to six periods of homework due the next day. (Of course, this would require teachers to actually talk to one another once in a while and coordinate things.)
This could play a huge factor on student sleep patterns. With less homework, or at least homework spaced out intelligently students will get more sleep, which I believe will help their moods the next day. More sleep equals feeling more energized and ready to take on the day in the morning.
