Colton, CA–On Thursday October 10, ASB held their annual homecoming pep rally in the Hubbs Gym.
The Rally was jam packed with spirit and Colton pride as a variety of performances were featured, some of which included: Dr. Jessica Cannaday singing the National Anthem, a student grupo playing a latin-inspired rendition of “Hey There Delilah,” a hip-hop dance, band, cheer, and color guard.
However, with all the rally had going on, an accident nearly derailed the first one. Right before the National Anthem, two pops sounded out as the Yearbook staff’s drone collided into a balloon column, popping two of the balloons and causing one of the columns to collapse.
Activities Director Alexandra Buskirk and ASB members rushed onto the rally floor and quickly fixed the balloons, allowing the rally to proceed as usual.
Junior Lexxie Ayala, the student who was flying the drone shared, “We had two people for the drone team and we had received practice before the event, unfortunately it didn’t include the balloons which proved to be an obstacle.”
The accident was not able to put a damper on the Homecoming spirit, however. Towards the end of the rally, this year’s Homecoming Royalty was introduced: freshmen Bella Armendariz and Thomas Prieto, sophomores Stefany Marcelo-Vergara and Aiden Duron, and juniors Kloe Gonzales and Ryan Vasquez.
The Homecoming upperclassmen court consisted of: Alex Munoz, Matthew Monge, Mia Gomez, Ghael Pasos, Tiffany Abril, Bryan Navarrete, Samantha Nikki Gonzalez, Damien Sanchez, Arianna Baeza, Anthony Castellanos, and Aubrey Rodriguez.
After the rallies had ended Colton had the Homecoming parade where families and friends cheered for their students before the highly anticipated football game.
The football game was held at Colton Highs football field at 7:00 on Thursday, where the homecoming king and queen were announced at the halftime show. The winners of the homecoming court at the halftime show were Anthony Castellanos and Aubrey Rodriguez.
After Colton High’s Varsity football team didn’t let the accidents from the rallies phase them, the Yellowjackets ended up winning their homecoming game 54-33, dominating Arroyo Valley.
