The Drama Club cordially invites you to its Halloween maze for 2023.

Colton, CA—Halloween is serious business in Colton, and this year both the school’s Drama Club and Publications department provided some special Halloween entertainment during the school day. Drama Club held their second annual Halloween Maze, and Publications staged a lunchtime costume contest.

For this year’s Halloween Maze, the Drama Club set it backstage in the darkness of the Whitmer Auditorium. The maze’s theme centered around a circus event, with actors dressed as ghoulish clowns leading students through tunnels lit with black and flashing lights as demented circus music played in the background.

“Everyone worked really hard,” said Dr. Jessica Cannaday, who brought her sixth period class to enjoy the maze as a holiday treat.

Noah Toro, one of the Drama Club members who helped organize this year’s maze, was excited about the turnout. “As a part of the ‘security detail,’ I saw many people going in for seconds.”

At lunch, the publications department hosted a Halloween costume contest in front of the Rivera MPR. The event featured students competing for Amazon gift cards in “Scariest Costume,” “Funniest Costume” and “Best Duo Costume.”

Felisity Barber won “Scariest Costume” for her take on a zombie soldier, complete with drooling blood. Geovanny Martinez won “Funniest Costume” with his humorous inflatable Sully from “Monster’s Inc.” And Aiden Smith and Natalie Diaz won “Best Duo,” impressing the judges with their take on the the main characters from the film “Nacho Libre.”

Smith and Diaz were also voted by the judges as having the best overall costume.

Judges included former Horror Club adviser Jesus Delgado, choir director Dr. Jessica Cannaday, FIDM Club adviser Kristen Tornero, yearbook editor-in-chief Alyssa Garcia, and Pepper Bough editor-in-chief Erin Dallatorre.

“This was an exciting event for us to put on,” said yearbook editor-in-chief Alyssa Garcia. “We are always looking for great ways to celebrate our students, and few holidays are more fun to celebrate than Halloween.”

Garcia indicated that she would like the costume contest to be an annual tradition at CHS.

Our Goal

Recently, the CHS Publications Department experienced a major theft as over $20,000 in photography equipment was stolen from our studio over Spring Break. This included all cameras. Any amount you donate will help rebuild our program. Thank you!
