On Sunday January 10th during a regular routine morning headcount Merced County Jail staff discovered that six inmates had escaped the jail. According to ABC 6 news, the inmates are twenty year old Jorge Barron, nineteen year old Gabriel Francis Coronado, twenty-one year old Allen Manuel Leon, twenty-one year old Nunez Andres Rodriguez Jr, twenty-two year old Fabian Cruz Roman, and twenty-two year old Edgar Eduardo Ventura. Many of the men were facing up to several serious charges. Merced County Sheriff Verne Warnke believes that the six prisoners escaped January 9th just before midnight around 11:30 pm meaning officers didn’t notice they were missing till hours later in the morning during the regular morning routine headcount on the 10th.

The six inmates escaped when they gained access to the roof and used homemade rope to go down the side of the jail. According to ABC news this is what officers of Merced County said, “Officers determined they were able to gain access to the roof of the facility and utilize a homemade rope to scale down the side of the jail.”. As of Thursday January 21st, three of the six inmates have been caught. The most dangerous man of them all, Fabian Cruz Roman who was faced with murder charges was caught trying to cross the boarder with Andres Rodriguez, to Mexico Tuesday the 12th. Eduardo Ventura turned himself in to the Firebaugh police chief. Three of the escaped inmates are still on the loose and are considered armed and dangerous.
