How Will Canada Get Through Winter?

Samantha Reynoso, Reporter

Almost everyone knows that because of COVID-19 people can no longer dine inside. People now have to eat their meal outside with tables spread out to eat safely. Soon we’ll be going into winter, and what comes with winter is cold weather. This may not be the biggest problem for Colton since the weather does not get too bad out here but what about our neighbor Canada?

Canada has one of the coldest winters with a usual daytime temperature of -5 to -15°C. With the new rules for restaurants having to dine outside the question becomes, “how will Canada do it?” Canada’s weather is not suitable for people to be eating outside. Small homemade businesses will struggle greatly if no one is coming in to dine.

Many businesses have apps like Uber Eats and DoorDash that will deliver food to your door, but with snow in the streets will they even be able to deliver the food? On top of that will DoorDash and Uber Eats alone make enough money to cover all of the customers who decided to stay home and not dine out at all? Bigger businesses in Canada can get through this problem but do smaller businesses have enough money to stay open and running?

It’s hard enough to pay the staff, rent, multiple bills and more things alone for small business, but with no one dining in where will they get the money?
