Trump’s campaign imploding after second debate and video outrage
October 13, 2016
The second presidential debate between candidates Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, held at Washington University in St. Louis, MO, started off hot. This was a unique debate because residents of St. Louis who have not yet decided which candidate they will be voting for on Nov. 8 were asked to attend and to come with questions for Clinton and Trump.
Just minutes into the debate, Trump was asked to explain a recently leaked video from 2005 that captures him bragging about sexually assaulting women. In the video Trump says, “I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything. Grab them by the p***y. You can do anything.” Moderator Anderson Cooper asked Trump if he realized that his actions were sexual assault to which Trump replied, “That was locker room talk,” and later made the bold statement “Nobody has more respect for women than I do.”
However shortly after Trump twisted a question about Islamophobia into an attack on Muslims, to which Clinton’s response was, “Our country was founded on religious freedom,” she reminded him that his claims for the night were unfounded because he is the same man who previously called for a ban on Muslims. She recalled his cruelty toward former Miss Universe Alicia Machado and his disrespect toward the family of Captain Kahn, amongst other attacks on people.
The candidates then debated over who they would bring to the Supreme Court. Clinton is looking for someone who would uphold Roe v Wade or pro-choice, as well same-sex marriage. Clinton is interested in someone who will increase civil liberties. Trump stated he had deep respect for the late Antonin Scalia, and he is looking for someone who fits the mold of Justice Scalia.
The final question from the audience asked that the candidates say something positive about each other. Clinton responded by complementing Trump’s children, and Trump commended her for her drive and “never giving up.”
