A new program whose aim is to get Yellowjacket parents together with school administration debuted recently on campus. Called Pastry with the Principal, the program brings together Colton High Moms and Dads with Principal Joda Murphy, to discuss anything the parents are concerned about.
The program was originally brought to this school by Colton’s previous principal, Amanda Corridan, but she left before it could actually be implemented. When Murphy took over the reins at CHS, she decided to move forward with the outreach.
Pastry with the Principal has already had one meeting so far, and the turnout was promising: 15 parents showed up. The parents came with the questions about whatever they wanted to know about the principal or the school. Principal Murphy says all the parents seemed very interested in what she had to say.
This new outreach is strictly for parents, so they can come to school and find out what they may want to know. They come and discuss topics of interest and is really open to anybody who is interested–mostly parents who are concerned and just would like to know more about the school. All parents have to do is come in and simply ask about the program to set up a meeting.
The counselors and some staff “advertise” this program and encourage parents to come do this. Murphy is more than happy to meet with parents and is eager to hear about their concerns or what they would like to know about their kids and their school.
