Barack Obama was publicly sworn in for his second term of presidency on Monday, January 21, 2013. This was our nation’s 57th Inaugural Ceremony.
Obama was given the presidential oath by the current Supreme Court chief justice, John Roberts. The theme which the ceremony followed was “Faith in America’s Future.” It marks the 150th anniversary of the placement of the Statue of Freedom atop the U.S. Capitol dome. The theme was also a following to the “Forward” theme used in the closing months of Obama’s reelection campaign.
It was covered by several news stations not only for the swearing in but for all the celebrities who attended and or preformed at the different even events. These celebrities included Jay-Z and Beyonce John Mayer and Katy Perry Eva Longoria and many more. Beyonce actually sang the national anthem before the ceremony began. There were several different performances at the inaugural ball following the ceremony later that night.
Alongside the many celebrities who attended the people who are usually sat on the inaugural platform include; The President and Vice-President-elects and their families, Members of U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, Cabinet members and nominees, Justices of the Supreme Court, The outgoing President and Vice President, Former presidents, The Joint Chiefs of Staff Governors, and The diplomatic corps. The platform itself was 10,000 square feet and held over 1,600 people.
Once the time for the Parade everyone was high spirited and excited for all that was to come. The route was down Pennsylvania Avenue starting from the capital making its way down to the White House.
They continued celebrating with the Ball, so the guests changed into their most elegant white tie attire. The President, Mr. Barack Obama and his wife, the first lady, Michelle Obama got the festivities started by sharing the first dance of the night.
The second and final Inauguration of President Obama ended with everyone of his supporters dancing the night away.
