Cheer’s “Dancing With the Stars” proves to be a show worth watching

Dancing with the Stars was a huge success! The cheerleaders racked in tons of money to support their cause. Judges were Gary Grossich, Laura Morales, Ingrid Munsterman, and Vic Slick, with hosts Monique Martinez and Shareece Wright.

They started it off with a loud and upbeat performance from the TNT band featuring teachers Dawud Aasiya-Bey on bass, Dave Rainey on lead guitar, CHS alumni Simon Jasso on rhythm guitar, student Angel Estrada on drums, and teacher Lucy Leyva on lead vocals.

Athletic Director Scott Sunderland and Nikki Toro started off the dancing with a fine  foot tapping and waist-shaking performance. Next were English Teacher Kristen Tornero and Leilani Douglas. They kicked off old school with a vintage  but dramatic dance, also having great prop skills using tons of props. After were Activities Director Gloria Ramirez-Haldeman and Mckenzie Gutierrez with a surprising effort considering Gloria is almost 7 months pregnant! Then Councilman David Toro and Kristine Clavel with a body moving foot tapping funny dance that made the crowd stand and clap. Following them was AVID teacher Terry Urban and Emily Waldon with the use of interesting props such as a hot dog and mustard suit. Next were Substitute teacher James Clerk and Mary Hill with an old school rap-looking performance that ended with the judges talking more about his banana bread than his dance. Next stepped up Assistant Principal Vic Schiro and Alyssa Valencia with an oldie but goodie dance; they even dressed the part. Next were Vollyball coach Camille Butts and Nicolle Limon, whom concentrated more on passing out candy than actually dancing.

But all fell short to the winners: Long Term Substitute Adrian Merendon and Amanda Corona. Their feet swinging, leg shaking dance took the night. Their great dancing skills showed that night along with Adrian’s wardrobe with a very bright lighted hat.

Recently, the CHS Publications Department experienced a major theft as over $20,000 in photography equipment was stolen from our studio over Spring Break. This included all cameras. Any amount you donate will help rebuild our program. Thank you!
