Our new CHS Yellow Jacket Marching Band, Color Guard and Drum Line director, Lisa Nicolay, has been hard at work making the transition to a new competitive division.
The newly assembled band, along with their experienced new instructor, headed to their first field show competition Saturday, October 20th. It was an astounding event filled with Yellow Jacket pride. Each of our band sections exhibited their musical skills masterfully and all placed first in various categories. The Marching Band section was awarded first place for Best Band overall. Our Color Guard won the first place title for Beauty and Precision. The Percussion section came out on the top spot as well for Best Rhythm.
CHS lost numerous students with the opening of Grand Terrace’s new high school. While they will be missed, our band was able to compete against some of the former Colton High School band members in this very competition, although they were in different categories. Despite the energetic competitiveness, students from all schools were positive and very encouraging of one another.
“Crimson pride runs deep,” exclaimed band director Lisa Nicolay, following the close of October 27th’s band competition. Rialto High School hosted the event with 15 bands in attendance. 50 of our very own CHS band members represented our distinguished institution of learning. Our school spirit was overflowing and caught the attention of the event’s announcer several times. Despite the high volume of bands at the competition, Colton High was easily recognized because of our students’ energy and school pride. Many thanks to our hard working band instructor as well as the students for bringing home a total of 5 new trophies to add to the old case.
We look forward to seeing lots more exciting events from our CHS Yellow Jacket Marching Band, Color Guard, and Drum Line. So far this “new beginning” is off to a prodigious start!
