Have you ever wondered what that barcode on your student ID cards is for? Well, not only are they for getting scanned for lunch, they are for the new program going on in Colton High to get scanned for attendance and for points to win cool prizes. This program has been going since the beginning of September and the points are already building up.
This program was created by Steve Forester and is being tested out in five other school in the Colton district. When the offer came up to try out this program Assistant Principal Victor Schiro didn’t hesitate to take on this program for Colton High seeing that it would be a useful program for record keeping. Schiro wanted to use this program to keep track of students’ attendance and to change it in a positive way. He also wanted to provide a program that all students can get involved in to win prizes for positive reasons. Schiro is very positive about this program and is very proud to be the director. He also established a list of events at will be held to get scanned to earn these points.
Not only are the students involved with this program but also the teachers. Everyone can get involved with this program; all you need to have is a CHS ID card with a barcode on it. Every time you get scanned you earn one point and you can build up points to win prizes. These point levels start at 10 points and go up. After you reach a point level you can get a prize (prizes to be awarded are yet to be determined). Schiro wanted to try to change the image of Colton High with positive rewards and getting scanned for positive things to win prizes is doing exactly that. Scanners are used to scan these ID cards but only four are available at Colton High, so if you want to earn points you have to go to a scan event listed on the scanning fliers.
This program is already starting to affect Colton High in a good way. Already student attendance has been at it highest in the past two years. More and more students are arriving on time and students want to get scanned for points. So keep a look out and be informed about these scanning events and build up those points.
