On Thursday April 19th Colton High’s Interact Club will be hosting an Awareness Walk during both lunches down Dortha Cooley Lane. Students will be able to sign up and participate in 8 different causes that will enable students to get involved and help make a change in this world. Colton High School’s Interact Club is sponsoring this event and the Pepper Bough got a chance to interview Senior, Christian Orellana, who came up with the idea of having this event.
P.B: How did you come up with the idea?
C.O: I came up with the idea after Kony 2012 and I saw how everyone was pulling together for a good cause and after the criticism that Kony 2012 received I didn’t want a great idea to die. I wanted to expand awareness on different issues while the hype is still up.
P.B: What made you want to do it?
C.O: It inspired me to help people in any way shape or form and help people become aware. I hope this leads me to a career in which I help people and make a difference/ impact.
P.B: What stands are going to be up?
C.O: There are going to be 7 different stands which include: Kony 2012, Children & Hunger, Hobos, Clothe the World, PETA, Relay for Life, and Drinking & Driving.
P.B: What is your ultimate goal from having this event?
C.O: Just to spread awareness. Also, seeing what people are capable of, and I want to help people pursue what interests them.
P.B: Is this something that you want to do more often?
C.O: In college, yes. I still want to stay involved and I want the community service clubs to be more involved and I want to leave a much more lasting impression on Colton High School. I want people to know that we are here to help our community and help get people involved.
