For Mercy Mgbemere, winning Prom Queen could mean something big, not just for her, but for Colton High.

Being the funny, beautiful and outgoing person that she is, Mercy has a lot to say on why she should be voted prom queen.

But before we get to all that, let’s just get to know her a little better.

Mercy Mgbemere (Alyssa Garcia)

Mercy is self-described as energetic, outgoing, and ambitious. She is certainly well-known. Her high school resume can hardly be shared in a single breath. It seems she is involved in everything: HEAL Pathway, AVID, AP/Honors Bio Club, FIDM Fashion Club, ASB, volleyball, track, and football manager.

She also has a real strong understanding of herself. “I think that people should vote for me because I’m amazing,” she says.

Although Mercy is a part of so many things, she is prepared to leave her high school days behind and start her adult life. “I will really miss it,” she says of high school, “but starting a new chapter in my life is really exciting, and I feel like at the same time I outgrew high school a long time ago. So I’m ready, I’m ready to leave.”

But before she leaves, she wants one last big memorable moment. Just going to prom is a good start. Last year, Mercy went to prom as a junior, but she is not worried at all about the expectations for this year because she can guarantee it’s going to be better. “This year, just because it’s us, it’s going to be better.”

You can add her incredible optimism as another reason to notch a vote on your prom queen ballot.

In addition to her all-around excellence, scoring votes for Prom Queen is a huge deal for Mercy. If she is crowned on Saturday night, Mercy would make CHS history as the first African-American Prom Queen.

That’s not the only reason why she is the one to vote for. Most people know who Mercy is and what she is like, nevertheless that’s what makes a great candidate. Being transparent is something that people look for when voting. Them knowing as much as they know Mercy, they know with her personality she would make an exceptional queen.

Ending her senior year on a high note Mercy has advice for the incoming freshman: “Don’t hesitate because you never know what’s gonna happen and the future is not promised; if you waste time being scared you’re gonna deprive yourself of experiences that could be good for you.”
