Oravetz new face in the Science Department

James Oravetz is the new chemistry teacher this year at Colton High School. Before coming to CHS he taught at Bloomington.

His students seem to like him here and enjoy his class. Nathaly Rodriguez, one of his current students, said, “so far my experience in his class has been pretty good, I enjoy the way he teaches and he is very helpful in making sure we understand what we are doing.” She also said that if she could describe him in three words she would choose “nice, helpful, and funny.”

When I interviewed him I asked him the same question and his answer was “energetic, cheerful, and tenacious,” which I’m pretty sure most of his students would agree with. During his class he is indeed very energetic and you could tell just how much he enjoys his job.

He said that his favorite part about teaching is the one-on-one interactions with students. His experience at CHS has been fantastic for the most part and he also said that the staff and students have been wonderful, there are ups and downs like everything in life, but for the most part it has been great. His favorite quote is, “We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we’re curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.” Something interesting about Oravetz is when he was asked to pick anywhere to visit in the world, he picked India because of the history that it contains and the culture. (Also because of the architecture.) I believe, and I think many people would agree, that Oravetz is going to make a great addition to Colton High School.
