Remembering Sean Price, rapper, gone too soon
September 11, 2015
Hip-Hop dropped.
On the morning of August 8th, the hip hop world lost another important member. Rapper, Sean Price was reported dead in his Brooklyn, New York home. There were no reports of foul play; he passed away in his sleep. He was only 43 years old and left behind a wife and three children. Friends and fans of Price have raised over $80,000 on a fundraiser to support the rappers family. Price was born Sean Du-Val Price on March 17, 1972, in Brooklyn, New York. He started his career in the music scene back in 1993. Then he was known as Ruckus or Ruck for short. He began as a member of the underground hip hop group known as Boot Camp Clik. He quickly made a name for himself and showed others that he could rhyme and speak the truth. Later he would go on and change his stage name to his actual name Sean Price.
After having success with Boot Camp Clik; in 1996 he would go on and start a duo group with Jamal Bush. Together they became a strong duo in the scene, and called themselves Heltah Skeltah. They released their much anticipated debut album Nocturnal in the summer of 96. Their album was an instant classic in the underground scene and soon reached higher levels of success. They would follow up with two more albums that had equal success as it predecessor. In 2005, Price took a big step and decided to go solo and release his own albums. That year he released his first solo album titled Monkey Barz. It reached #46 on the billboard chart; he would go on to release Jesus Price, Random Axe, Mic Tyson, and his last album that was still released after his death, Songs In The Key Of Price. Mic Tyson is one of his best known albums for its heavy hitting lyrics (hence the name) and message. In 2012, it reached #9 on the hip-hop albums billboard. His last album was released August 21st, two weeks after his death. So far this final album has hit home with a lot of fans and will be remembered.
Although he left us too soon, he left us with a final gift; the gift of music. We will forever cherish and enjoy listening to for the many years to come. Rest in peace, Sean Du-Val Price.
